Boats and Stuff

So we stayed in Mystic to check out the Mystic Seaport.  It didn't disappoint.  On Sunday morning we got up and headed down to the Seaport, stopping at a very New York style bagel joint.

After we dogged our bagels we went to see this puppy, the Charles W. Morgan whaling ship.  The docents really knew their stuff so we learned a lot about old wooden boats, and the US whaling industry.  Did you know that the truck on the Morgan is 110 feet above deck?  Do you know what a truck is??  I didn't either.  (I got the photo of the morgan off the web, the boat is now up on blocks for restoration)

The Mystic Seaport is a working boatyard, and they've got all their equipment and materials right there, ready to see.  They had all kinds of exhibits and videos to show you how wooden boats were built, and what they are doing to restore the Morgan.  You could even go below deck on the Morgan and get a taste of what life aboard was like.

Check out the blubber room... it's where they rendered the fat from the whale blubber and stored it in barrels that got stuffed down in the hold along with the crybabies.

After we got our fill of the boating and whaling life we headed toward Stamford but found this awesome strip of a dozen taco trucks right off the highway.  Anna's anxiously waiting for her al pastor tacos from Nexcalli...

While we were there we saw a tricked out 72 corolla wagon that looked brand new, and a 40+ strong biker gang on everything from 4-wheelers to dirt bikes to mopeds.  The 4-wheeler and many of the other bikes were riding wheelies all along and on both sides of the street.  Supasmaht!
